Heart Strings was inspired by this animation, In the animation we see a girl in her room covered in strings that connect her to the items in her room. I felt this was such a strong visual to have and wanted to almost recreate it in my own images. I then looked at Fiona Apple's music video for every single night which expanded on this idea of connections we have to objects and people and sentience.
Lastly I looked at Rania Matar she created this series ‘A Girl and Her Room’ over the space of about 4 years starting as another project of her photographing her daughters and their friends hanging out. She later realised that the girls were only truly their selves when they were alone. She decided to photograph them alone asking the girls where they felt most comfortable to do so, they all said their bedrooms. It was during these times that she realised their rooms where a extension of themselves. the girls seemed to be part of the room, to fit in, just like everything else in the material and emotional space.
“I was discovering a person the cusp on becoming an adult, but desperately holding on to the child she barely outgrew a person on the edge between two worlds”
